The Router Settings tab contains customizable options for the router and applicable access points. The options within this tab may vary based on the hardware being used.

Main Network

The top section of the Router Settings tab will display the Main Network settings. Unless otherwise configured, the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz SSIDs will be enabled. This section will look similar to the example captured below.

Channel Width

The channel width is set to Auto by default. The service provider has the ability to change the channel widths. To determine which channel would be ideal for the network, click on the Run Wireless Scan button. The scan will be ran for both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz. Once completed, the page will refresh. Click the View XX neighboring access points button.

Below is an example of what might be seen in an urban area surrounded by other Wifi networks. The LEFT side of the graph (from the blue line) is what you want it to look like. All of the networks are in the same channel and shows the signal strength. (Anything under -75 is considered a usable signal).

This LAN specifically has some networks that are on the same channel, but not close to the gateway. This could be a neighbors wifi.

To the RIGHT side of the graph, the lines start to cross over each other. This can cause an un-pleasant wifi experience and some connection loss. The solution would be to change the channel width to not cross over another network.

SSID and Password

When first provisioning a device for an account, the service provider will have the option to customize the SSID and passphrase. The subscriber also has the ability to change the SSID and passphrase using the Minim App. To update these using the Care Portal, simply type in the new information for either (or both) signals and click the Apply button below. It will take a minute for the router to sync with the new settings. There will be a dark bar across the page allowing the settings to applied now by clicking the Apply Now button. The page will refresh once the settings have been applied.

Service providers can also send the SSID/Password to their subscribers via text or push notifications if they have the Minim App installed on their phone. Click on the one of the links below the corresponding SSID to send the information to the subscriber.

Guest Network

MikroTiks have the guest network feature built in to their RouterOS. Below the Main Network section, there will be a Guest Network section. This section is disabled by default. To enable it, click on the toggle to the right of the section title. The 2.4GHz and the 5GHz signals will toggle on automatically. Type in the SSID and passphrases for the signals and click the Apply button. It will take a minute for the router to sync with the new settings. There will be a dark bar across the page allowing the settings to applied now by clicking the Apply Now button. The page will refresh once the settings have been applied.

Admin Credentials

MikroTiks have unique user names and passwords to be used when accessing the unit via WinBox or another remote software of choice.

Quality of Service

The option to disable the Quality of Service (QoS) feature in a subscriber account will not be available unless the QoS setting is enabled in the ISP settings. To learn more about how to enable it and what it does, please refer to this KB article.

Port Forwarding

Port forwarding can be configured for the devices that have been connected to the subscriber's network. It is used to  allow external devices access to computers services on private networks.

To configure port forwarding, click the Add Port Forward button. A pop-up will appear with a drop-down list of all the connected devices. Select a device from the list and input the port information. Select the preferred protocol. When finished, click the Create button to save the settings.
