Minim Parental Controls provides Minim application users with a robust way of controlling devices on their network. Users have the ability to create profiles, assign devices, and limit internet time for each device. All of Minim's Parental Control features can be easily accessed via the Minim app.
The Profile feature allows network owners the ability to create user profiles for anyone on their network and assign devices to that profile. This makes it easy to identify devices owned by certain users on the network. Creating profiles allows you to be able to manage the connected devices for one user all at once, rather than having to set up parental controls for each device one-by-one.
Creating A Profile
By clicking on the Profiles tab at the bottom of the screen, you are brought to a new page where you can set Parental Controls. Click on the + in the top-right corner of the app page. Next you will be directed to a new page where you can input a new person (profile). Type in the name and select the devices from the list to assign them to the profile. Once completed, push the check mark or create button.
Pausing profiles is simple and you have a couple options of how to do it. All you need to do is click on the user profile from the Profiles page. The first way you can pause a profile is by simply pressing the pause button to the right of the name of the profile. Once you push the pause button, you will be able to decide how long the devices within the profile will be paused from using the internet by tapping on the drop-down with the default selection of Indefinitely.
The second way to cause is a profile is by tapping the arrow to the far-right of the name of the profile. The screen will redirect to show the profile and devices assigned. You can tap the pause button towards the top of the page and also select the duration in which the profile will be paused.
Pausing all profiles
If you need to pause all of the profiles created, navigate back to the Profile page and touch the "Pause All Devices" button. This will pause every device assigned to a profile.
Devices that Cannot Be Paused
Pausing the internet is a great way to control what is and is not allowed on your network and when. Although this is a great feature, it could cause some issues with devices on the network that need to remain on the internet at all times. Minim understands that and created exceptions for these devices.
Minim wont allow pauses to:
- Health/Medical devices
- Security Systems
Assigning Devices to an Existing Profile
Additional devices can be assigned to a profile after it has been created. There are two ways to accomplish this.
The first way is to open an existing user's profile, tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner, and tap "edit". A list of connected devices will appear. From there you can add or remove a device from their profile. When finished tap the Save button or the check-mark in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
The second way is to navigate to the Devices list from the Network tab. Tap on the device you want to assign to a profile. The page will redirect to show you information about the device. Tap the Owner field underneath the Device Name. A pop-up will appear and ask you to select the owner of the device. (Please note that the app user cannot remove a device from a profile using this method. To remove a device from a profile without reassigning it to another profile, use the previous method.)
The Schedules feature gives you the ability to only allow devices internet time between a specified time-period. When outside of the schedule, the internet will be paused for that profile. To set up a schedule for a profile, navigate to the profile's main page. Tap the Schedules button. The page will redirect to a page giving you the option to add a schedule. Tap the Add Schedule button. Tap where it says "Bedtime", and enter the name of the schedule. Select the days this schedule will apply to and the start and end times of the schedule. Tap the Save button when done.
To remove a schedule from a profile, select the schedule and tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner. Next, tap the Delete button.
The Time Limits feature gives you the ability to limit how long a device/profile can use the internet per day. This feature can be located in a profile's detail page by tapping on the Time Limits button. A user can set the time allotment, what days of the week this rule should apply on, and which profile will be affected.
The Filters feature gives you the ability to block a variety of different types of content with three levels of filtering.
To set-up filtering, you will need to have configured a profile associating devices with a user. To learn how to set up a profile, please return to the beginning of this article and review the Profiles section.
To access the configured profiles, tap on the Profiles tab at the bottom of the app. Next, select the profile you would like to apply a filter to. Then, tap the Filters button.
If this is the first time setting up filters, the screen will look like the one below. Tap on the Choose a content filter button or the + button in the upper right-hand corner. The screen will direct to a list of filter options. Choose the one that best suits the needs of the profile. Tap the Save button when done.
The screen will direct you to an overview of the filter selected. The filter type can be changed by taping on the down arrow to the right of the current filter selected. You can select the new filter and then tap the Save button to apply the change.
